We believe that students are creative, intelligent and can accomplish incredible things if given the chance to focus their talents. The Future Game Designer Challenge gives students a target for their talent. If you have ever dreamed of being a game designer, programmer, artist or marketer – then this competition is for you. The FGDC gives you a chance to put together a team and to compete against teams who have the same resources and basic training.

Middle School Challenge

This challenge has each middle school team creating an edutainment game for either 4th or 5th grade. The game must help teach subject matter that is specific to the grade selected. The game should engage students in Math, Language, or Science. The game should be appropriate to the target audience. The game must have a storyline and the play should support the theme of the game. A description of all levels should be included in the documentation for the game. This challenge has each high school team creating an edutainment game for grade level 7th or 8th.  The game must help to teach subject matter that is specific to the grade selected. The game should engage students in Math, Language, or Science. The game should be appropriate to the target audience. The game must have a storyline and the play should support the theme of the game. The game must have the player progress to a second level of play. A description of 2 additional levels should be included in the documentation for the game.
Health Games Challenge
 
Women Designed Games
 
The Health Games Challenge has the competing teams developing a physically active video game that is challenging, engaging and promotes a health message. The teams must incorporate a dance pad as the main player controller for the action. The game must keep the player active for at least 10 minutes and must have a second level. The second level must have the player increase their activity. The game should target one of 3 age ranges: 5-6th grade. 7-8th grade or 9-10th grade. As a pilot event, this event will have a limited number of challenger teams allowed. The Women Designed Games Challenge has all young woman teams creating edutainment games.Studies show that women and men are attracted to different types of video games. What we want to find out is what happens when you give young women the chance to design, build and create the game. As part of our work to attract more young women into science and technology we want to give them their own voice. For this challenge the game must help to teach subject matter that is specific to the grade selected. The game should be appropriate to the target audience. The game must have a storyline and the play should support the theme of the game. A description of 2 additional levels should be included in the documentation for the game.
Web Game Challenge

The game should engage students in Math, Language, or Science. The game should be appropriate to the target audience. The game must have a storyline and the play should support the theme of the game.
